Yamaha SRX 700 Hauck Powersports Top Gun Snowmobile

on 01:43 in , ,

Yamaha's SRX 700 is the last 2 cycle snowmobile sled I ever owned... but she was a beauty!

Stock wasn't enough for me, so I called up my friends over at Hauck Power Sports in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. They hooked me up with their Top Gun kit that is basically a bored out engine to 800 cc's with new coated pistons, rings, gasket set, ported and renikasiled cylinders and modified heads.

Add to the mix V-Force Reeds, a Boost Bottle kit to balance the fuel flow between the 38 TMX carbs when under heavy stress.

In order to apply all of this new power, silencer can and racing pipes were added along with Hauck's special Magnum secondary clutch...

Racing The Hauck Powersports SRX 700

Did I mention that I never told anyone what was under the hood? That was the fun part my snowmobile loving friends. To everyone else, she looked stock. Didn't sound stock, but looked stock.

I raced some new 4-cycle Yamaha RX1's out in the open lake and while the RX1 took me in the first eighth mile, my highly modified SRX 700 beat the RX1 after we crossed 90 miles an hour. About 117 MPH I began to get scared and let off the gas... only to realize that less than 7 seconds had elapsed. Talk about an adrenaline rush!

M-10 Snowmobile Aftermarket Suspension to the Rescue

In order to improve comfort and allow me to change the suspension properties while out on the trail, I added an M-10 Suspension (now they produce a M-12) that is made by "Fast, Inc.". The powerplant was a nice addition, but the M-10 made the machine perfect.

My endorsement For Hauck Powersports

In the state of Wisconsin, there are no Yamaha snowmobile performance experts smarter than the folks at Hauck Powersports. I don't work for them, but I am a happy customer. They are not cheap, but they are the Yamaha performance sled experts.

The only recommendation I have for those who might try to build a ,000 Hauck Power Sports machine like I did: Skip the carb "boost bottle." I'm not sure it added any real performance, but it did add a quirky throttle response when the engine was cold.

Sadly, I sold my pair of Yamaha SRX's last year in order to make room for my first 4-cycle snowmobile: The Yamaha RX Warrior. Bender Turbocharger...here I come.
